XAV is back online, but not for the PSP

Due to some technical difficulties with the python libraries for the PSP, I abandoned teh project long ago, but recently I have started work on a new project:

XAV

yes the name will be the same, but this is different:

Uses Pyglet a Python library
Will be a Linux mouseless access.

I got tired of trying to do stuff on my computer just to play snes games, or check my email and having to drag out my keyboard and mouse, especially when I have a perfectly good 360 controller and a media center remote siting right beside me.

The idea came from Microsofts Origami platform which looks like this:

It will be along the same lines, but not a copy.

Things I will hopefully implement:

1. Password entry from the remote
2. .avi playback
3. emulator launcher
4. Email checking
5. RSS reading
6. a "widget" engine
7. web browser (although I have no idea how to do text entry)

Screenshots

Here are some screen shots from early on

sorry but this blog makes me resize them into an unreadable format

first is the RSS reader when it was very beta, now the text wrap works (doesnt cut off in middle of words), and i got a different font. I also centered the images, here is a pic of QJ's RSS feed

next is the web browser (now just using a gamespy html found on my computer since i didnt have internet access when i wrote it, but it works fine with the web part of web browsing. it has image support (but only for gif and png) and links support. but so far its a no go on form input. i wrote the browser just so people can follow links from their RSS feeds. you have an option of setting the screen size to 800x3000 or 480x3000 (here it is 480x3000 so you dont have to scroll around)

XAV

What is XAV? Well it started out as me trying to create the best RSS reader out there, and then turned into a suite of applications including:
  • Web browser
  • MP3 playback
  • RSS updated
  • GMail client
  • GTalk client
  • Google Calendar

Web browser is finished in its (.1) form meaning it has URL entering support, and link support so no form entry or CSS as of now. Just meant to be used to follow links from RSS reader

RSS is in (.8) it has image support, and I just have to redo link support and add media xml's for it to be in in RSS 1 stable form

MP3 playback is pretty standard, not much going on here, just thought it would be nice to have

GMail client (.4) allows you to send emails, as well as check your inbox

GTalk client (.2) allows you to send and recieve chat messages

Google Calendar currently in nothing mode, as I havent started on it.

Expected final release date: 10th of August

Expected Closed Beta test: 1st of August*
